Crowdfunding campaign passes 25%!

We are so touched by people showing us how much they believe in us, in what we are doing. We are excited to share our story with a widening circle of believers, and amazed at how many people support the movement to put Africans in control of development in Africa.

But this movement is not just about Tanzania or development. We all share the same Earth, the same seas, the same air. Climate change has showed us how interconnected we all truly are. The actions of one affect the lives of many. In Africa we call it “ubuntu”, the notion that we are all connected by our humanness. Desmond Tutu said, “You can’t be human all by yourself… you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”

As AVC volunteer Martin Mwanyika put it, “I am not just working for myself. I am working for my children, and their children, and 20 generations from now.” Self-determination anywhere ripples across the world. The ability for one human to live his or her potential opens up the potential for every other person around her, and thus ripples out in circles across the entire world.

Thank you to everyone who believes in us. Thank you to everyone who has chosen to join the movement.

Want to know how to take action?

1. Watch the video—learn why we started Africa Volunteer Corps and why we say “Join the Movement”.

2. Share the video— Post a link on Facebook.

On our email list? Forward the email to 5 friends who want all people to live their potential, who believe in making the world a better place, anyone who knows that the only way to really help people is put them in control of their own future.

We don’t just want more donors, we want to grow our movement.

3. Donate what you can—As of right now we are at 27%. If we reach 30% there is a 95% chance we will reach our goal. That means that if only 17 people give $10 you are virtually assuring our success. (Or if 10 people give $17 … we know you can do the math, we’re just reminding you)

Get rewards! Give to the campaign, get gifts in return. Gifts that help you connect with our work or beautiful accessories that strengthen African communities (Want a personalized video message from a volunteer? Or bracelets designed by Nicole Miller that help women entrepreneurs in Rwanda?)

Remember, this campaign is all or nothing. That means that if we get $5000 by April 13th (or $8000 or $10,000), we get all of it. But if we don’t reach $5000, we get none.
